The Gold Coast will join racing history when it plays host to the $200,000 18-carat gold Lexus Melbourne Cup this week as part of the 16th annual Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour.

While in town the Cup will participate in a number of exciting community activities. This will include attending a Women in Racing cocktail function at the Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove Resort and attending the Pink Ribbon Cup Raceday at Gold Coast Turf Club.

During the raceday, the iconic trophy will be ridden into the Mounting Yard with the Pink Ribbon Cup and also be on display throughout the day for race goers to take photos with in exchange for a donation to Pink Ribbon Foundation.

Steve Lines CEO from GCTC said the community is looking forward to coming together to celebrate the iconic trophy.

“We are thrilled to have this prestigious inclusion for this very important raceday, Pink Ribbon Cup not only launches our Spring Racing Carnival here on the Gold Coast but it is now in its 11th year as a fundraising raceday.  Having the Cup on display helps us contribute more funds to the Foundation and gives an added touch for our members, the public and our Club which is also steeped in racing history.”

Racing legend and Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Larry will also join in the celebrations and share his unique Lexus Melbourne Cup stories with the Gold Coast community.

Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson said the Club is looking forward to bringing the magic of the People’s Cup to the Gold Coast.

“The Lexus Melbourne Cup holds a special place in many people’s hearts and it is only fitting we take the iconic three-handled Cup on a journey to meet the people who share in our love for the great race,” Mr Wilson said.

The Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour commenced its journey in the United Kingdom and Ireland in July and will travel to a record 37 destinations across the globe, before returning to Flemington for ‘the race that stops a nation’™ on the first Tuesday in November.

Since its inaugural year in 2003, the Tour has travelled more than half a million kilometres and visited more than 400 regional, rural and metropolitan destinations, providing communities with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the magic of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.
