Racing
With 60 race meetings in the 2009/2010 season, the Gold Coast Turf Club can boast having the most raced on track in Australia. The Coast’s signature race days include the time honoured Prime Minister’s Cup meeting in early May, and the rich Magic Millions Raceday in January.
The Prime Minister’s Cup meeting boasts six black type races, headlined by the Group 2 WFA A.D. Hollindale Stakes. The Hollindale honour role includes multiple Australian champions of the turf, including Scenic Shot, Shogun Lodge, Rough Habit, and dual Australian Horse of the Year Might and Power. In the past decade, the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas for three year olds, has proved a launching pad for future stars, with winners including 5 time Group 1 winning champion Eremein, Australian Champion 2YO Fashions Afield, and dual Group 1 winner Gold Edition.
The $2 Million Magic Millions 2YO Classic is equally littered with stars, including Golden Slippers winners Dance Hero and Phelan Ready, champion sprinter Testa Rossa and Group 1 winning mare Regimental Gal.
The GCTC is also home to one of Australia’s largest training centres, with approximately 650 horses in work for some of South East Queensland's leading trainers.
