Wise Commander powers home
BRISBANE colt Wise Commander justified stable confidence with a strong performance at the Gold Coast this afternoon.
Trained at Eagle Farm by Bruce Brown, Wise Commander ($3.50 into $2.30 fav) sprinted through a gap over the final stages to post an impressive two-length win in the Murray Seargant Memorial QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate (900m).
Wise Commander was lining up for his second race start today after finishing second on debut to impressive winner Qfighter at the Gold Coast on May 19.
Part-owner Peter Warrier said Bruce Brown and rider Priscilla Schmidt were both confident Wise Commander would break through today.
“Bruce has a good opinion of this colt and Priscilla rode him at trackwork at Eagle Farm during the week and was very impressed,’’ he said. “Bruce was very confident he would win today.
“Priscilla said that at the 200m she thought he was going to have trouble getting a run but when the gap opened he drove straight into it and has ended up winning by two lengths.
“He cost only $11,000 at last year’s QTIS 600 sale and has already picked up $26,000 from his two starts.
“He is by Court Command out of Wise Bell which is a good family and he should be better at three and four. Bruce might be tempted to give him a break now, but I’m sure he’ll be guided by the horse.’’
