THE Gold Coast Turf Club’s Steve Andrews has been named Australia’s Racecourse Manager Of The Year.
Andrews received the award during this week’s 2011 Australian Racecourse Managers Association annual conference held at the GCTC.
"It is fantastic that Steve has been recognised by his peers for the outstanding work he does at the GCTC as well as his contribution to his profession,'' said GCTC chief executive officer Grant Sheather.
Some 120 delegates and sponsors from Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong attended the conference to discuss current and future developments for the improvement of turf and all-weather racing and training surfaces, equine information, health and safety and environmental topics.
The annual conference provides an opportunity for racecourse managers to be recognised for their contribution towards racecourse management and fellowship within the racecourse fraternity through a number of awards sponsored by TurfCraft International.
The successful winners of these awards as judged by the National Chairman of Steward Advisory Group  were:
2011 Racecourse Manager of Year – Steve Andrews, Gold Coast Turf Club
2011 Significant contribution – Metropolitan Racecourse – Martin Synan, Moonee Valley Racing Club
2011 Significant contribution – Provincial Racecourse – Steve Routledge, Kalgoolie-Boulder Racing Club
Additional to the racecourse manager awards, industry providers Steriline Racing and Anco Seed & Turf present scholarships to our future racecourse managers enabling successful candidates to study abroard (Hong Kong and Singapore) and gain work experience at feature carnival meetings (VRC Melbourne Cup week).
