MURWILLUMBAH galloper Sir Esmond gave trainer Thea Taylor another personal milestone today when he scored a strong win at the Gold Coast.
Sir Esmond ($11) finished strongly to win the Aqua Leisure Pools Class 1 Hcp (1400m) by three-quarters of a length from Raise Your Banner ($21) with Deva Denz ($5) a 1-1/4 lengths away in third.
The five-year-old’s win gave Taylor her first success at the Gold Coast, two months after he also provided her with her first metropolitan winner.
“I bought him for only $2000 at a Gold Coast monthly sale as an unraced four-year-old,’’ said Taylor, who has been training for 17 years.
“I believe he originally went through the yearling sale for $18,000 but had never made it to the racetrack for some reason.
“He is by Dubai Destination  out of a Sadlers Wells mare, so I was happy to get him for only $2000.
“He had a few problems with shin-soreness when I got hom but had no other issues.
“He gave me my first city winner when he won at Doomben in March and now my first Gold Coast winner. And he’s now won over $20,000 in 12 starts – not bad for a $2000 buy.’’
