GREY filly Silvakini revived memories of her very talented mum when she broke through in good style at the Gold Coast today.
Silvakini is the daughter of former prolific-winning grey mare Ossie Cossie, a crowd favourite throughout Australia during her 58-start career during the 1990s.
The tough mare won 19 races and was placed another 18 times, winning races at Moonee Valley, Caulfield, Sandown and Randwick. She posted her biggest win in the 1997 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Randwick.
Silvakini, a daughter of Eureka Stud’s stallion Red Dazzler, was lining up her seventh career start in today’s Traintech 2000 – A New Direction QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate (900m).
Apprentice Shane Arnold jumped Silvakini ($4.60) straight to the lead and she had a long neck to spare on the line over Angelina ($11) with the same margin to One To Go ($2.50 into $1.80 fav) in third.
Silvakini clocked a slick 50.87s, lowering Run The Course’s previous class recod of 50.99s.
Silvakini is raced by Shoot Out’s owners Graham and Linda Huddy and trained by John Wallace, who paid $100,000 for her at 2010 Magic Millions sales.
