Pattillo makes the most of only ride
JOCKEY Tony Pattillo made the most of his one ride at the Gold Coast today, driving hot favourite Egyptian Tomb home in a desperate finish to the Peter Cuddihy F&M Maiden Plate (1200m).
Trained by Gillian Heinrich, Egyptian Tomb started the $1.90 favourite after firming in from $2.
The four-year-old mare was lining up for her second run back from a lengthy spell after resuming for a close second to Leoncino at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago.
Pattillo had Egyptian Tomb settled in fourth place but favourite-backers looked in trouble well in the straight when Fairy Green ($17) kicked strongly in the lead and looked the likely winner.
But Egyptian Tomb kept working away and nailed Fairy Green right on the line to score by a half-head with Grabthemoney’n’run ($3.80) 1-1/4 lengths away in third.
Egyptian Tomb gave Pattillo his 10th winner at the Gold Coast this season to lift him into fifth place on the jockeys’ ladder.
