BEAUDESERT trainer Mark Palmer got off to flying start at today’s Gold Coast meeting with a winning double from the opening three races.
And to add more lustre to that performance, he also provided a longshot quinella in the opening leg of his double.
Palmer saddled up the two rank outsiders in the CJB Electrical/Hager B&R C,G&E Class 3 Plate but his runners dominated the race with Bossberg ($18) holding stablemate Intadom ($20) by three-quarters of a length (pictured). Richly Blended ($4.40) was a length away third.
Unfortunately, he didn't take the quinella.
"I liked Bossberg because he handles soft ground and I had something on him, but wasn't confident about Intadom's chances,'' he said. "Intadom doesn'lt like the wet conditions but got into the finish today because of the way the race was run. But it's great to get an early double and that's my first ever at the Gold Coast.'''
Palmer then won the following race, the Laser Plumbing/Caroma Maiden Plate (1300m), when Cougar Fish ($3.70) came away for a 2-3/4 length win over the $2.10 favourite Fouardeeson.
Cougar Fish also completed a double for Brisbane-based Kiwi apprentice Ryan Hurdle.
Currently on loan to Eagle Farm trainer Rob Heathcote, Hurdle earlier won the Queensland Industrial Electrics/Thomas & Betts Maiden Plate (1800m) aboard Warlady.
The Bruce Hill-trained Warlady ($2.30 fav) led into the straight and dashed right away for a six-length victory over Red Majesty ($6).
