Majestic win eases Goldmarket result
TRAINER David Scanes and his mother Marianne couldn’t take out today’s feature Goldmarket Hcp, but gained some joy at the meeting with the overdue win of their stayer Majestic Sound.
Marianne owns Majestic Sound outright and is also a part-owner of Mr Slick who finished 10th behind Spirit Of Boom in the $100,000 Carlton Draught Goldmarket Hcp (1300m).
Majestic Sound doesn’t win often but appreciated the step up in distance today to outstay his rivals in the ABC Balloons And Events Class 2 Hcp (2200m).
In a finish that dashed most punters’ hopes, Majestic Sound ($11) downed $41 hope Merchant Girl by three-quarters of a length with the same margin to Ruffino ($13) in third. The $3.60 favourite Golden Cygnet and the well-backed Main Street ($6 into $4.60) finished fourth and eighth respectively.
Majestic Sound’s previous win was in soft ground at the Gold Coast last March and before that at the same track in July, 2010.
“I’ve only got the two horses in my stable - this bloke and Mr Slick - and I wouldn’t mind a few more,’’ said David Scanes.
“Majestic Sound copped a virus earlier in his prep which put him behind a month or two and it’s just been a case of getting him up to the 1800m-2200m range.’’
