Keane, Schmidt dominate with trebles
APPRENTICE jockeys Patrick Keane and Priscilla Schmidt both landed trebles to dominate today’s rain-soaked meeting at the Gold Coast.
Keane sealed his winning treble when the Toby Edmonds-trained Chart (pictured) landed today’s main event, the QUAY Shipping Australia Gold Coast City Cup (1400m).
Schmidt had to wait until the final event to complete her treble when the Bryan Guy-trained Jypsiere ($4) held on to upset heavily-backed favourite Thefifthhole ($2.70 into $2).
Keane, who moved to the Gold Coast late last year to link with the Kelly Doughty stable, drove Chart ($3.10 fav) to a three-quarter length victory over the gallant pacemaker Machination ($3.70) who just couldn’t hold off the winner in the shadows of the post.
They gapped the rest, with Boulder ($6.50) 5-1/2 lengths away in third.
Chart’s win also sealed a double for trainer Toby Edmonds who also combined with Keane earlier with Le Compromis.
Chart has now won two of his three starts for Edmonds, who purchased him for $30,000 at the Magic Millions National Racehorse Sale in June.
By Viscount out of the Group-placed Danehill mare Clothilde, Charts is an ex-Darley galloper who won three races when trained by Peter Snowden.
Schmidt won earlier races today on the Helen Page-trained Billiton Miss and Martha’s Vineyard for Eagle Farm trainer David Murphy.
