Da Vista scores first-up for Willick
TRAINER Alicia Willick produced an immediate result when stable newcomer Da Vista scored a boilover at the Gold Coast this afternoon.
Resuming from an 11-month spell and having his first start for Willick, Da Vista started the rank outsider in the six-horse field in the Revelstone Stud Class 4 Hcp (1400m).
Ridden by talented apprentice Priscilla Schmidt, Da Vista led into the straight but was under heavy pressure at the 200m when the $2.05 favourite Go Kingpin loomed up strongly.
Go Kingpin, who had been slow to jump, got at least a half-length in front of Da Vista but he knuckled down to come again and beat the favourite by a short head. Three Red Roses ($4) was 1-3/4 lengths away third.
“Alicia’s done a greally good job with him to get him to win first-up after a long break,’’ said part-owner Vic Holland.
“He’s really an 1800m horse, but when the others were tiring on the heavy track today over the 1400m his stamina has kicked in and he’s fought back to win. We can’t wait to get him up over 1800m now.’’
