Certain Star wins again for Dunn
FILLY Certain Star maintained her perfect record for new trainer Matt Dunn at the Gold Coast today, but the effort of runner-up Run With Me was an eye-catcher.
Certain Star won her Maiden first-up for Dunn at the Gold Coast on December 31 and stepped up again to land today’s Kerry Smith Class 1 Hcp (900m).
A $6 to $4.60 firmer, Certain Star just held on to beat Run With Me ($2.60 fav) by a half-head with Supremeheart ($11) 1-1/4 lengths away third.
Certain Star continued the great season Dunn is having, both at the Gold Coast and in Brisbane. Dunn has had 12 metropolitan winners so far this season and Certain Star was his eighth winner at the Gold Coast, putting his in equal fourth spot on the trainers’ ladder.
The Trevor Whittington-trained Run With Me is certainly one to follow out of today’s race. He looked well above himself today but rattled home late to just miss out at his first start since a luckless second at the Sunshine Coast in October.
Sunshine Coast trainer Jason McLachlan set up a two-track double when Fusil De Eve ($11) scored a strong win in the Ray Croxford QTIS 2YO Maiden Hcp (1200m).
McLachlan scored later in the afternoon with Maroon Bells at Eagle Farm.
In the Gold Coast race, the John Thompson-trained Aronson was backed into an odds-on favourite ($2.80 to $1.90) but was quickly under pressure in the straight and faded to finish fourth.
