Big Ken back in the winner's stall
BIG Ken The Celt scored his first win since June, 2010 when he landed today’s Pat McCartney’s 60th Birthday Class 2 Hcp (1400m) at the Gold Coast.
Formerly trained by Liam Birchley at Eagle Farm but now with Gold Coast trainer Trevor Whittington, Big Ken The Celt showed some promise as a two-year-old.
The Kenfair gelding won two races in his two-year-old season, including a $150,000 race at Rockhampton when he beat Bianca Jewel.
Owner Bruce Alker hopes today’s return to form is a sign Big Ken The Celt is back on the right track.
“Liam recommended we try giving the horse a change of scenery, so within half an hour I had contacted Trevor who was happy to take him,’’ said Alker.
“Trevor’s had him for his past five runs and now that he’s found winning form again, hopefully he can get back to the form he showed as a younger horse.’’
Ridden by Chris Whiteley, Big Ken The Celt ($4.40 into $3.50 fav) made all the running and safely held his rivals, downing I’m A Single Lady ($11) by a length. President ($12) was a neck away in third.
