Member of the Month
Congratulations Thomas Pettiona! You are our May Member of the Month and will receive two complimentary tickets to enjoy a day in the Directors Lounge. A WELL-KNOWN owner and punter for decades, Tom Pettiona has been attending Gold Coast race meetings since the 1950s. “I was living in Melbourne back then but used to often visit the Gold Coast and then I moved up here for good in the 1960s,’’ he recalled. “The racecourse and the Gold Coast in general have both changed so much in that time. There were only two high-rises on the Gold Coast when I first moved up here.’’ Tom became a GCTC member 35 years ago and has owned countless winners at the Gold Coast over the years. He also achieved every owner’s ultimate dream in 1981 when Just A Dash won the Melbourne Cup. Tom raced the Tommy Smith-trained stayer with his good friends Lloyd Williams and George Frew. “Winning the Melbourne Cup is something everyone dreams about and that was certainly a special day for the three of us,’’ he said. “But I think the best horse I ever had was Prince Romantic. He was a very good horse who won a lot of races, including a Futurity Stakes (in 1968). “And I’ve had so many winners here at the Gold Coast with trainers like Alan Bailey and Bruce McLachlan.’’ Tom admits he doesn’t attend as many race meetings as he once did, but still loves a punt. “(Former GCTC chairman) Peter Gallagher was my closest friend and I was also very close to Bruce McLachlan, but sadly they are both no longer with us so I’m not as interested in coming out to the races as much as I once did. I guess I’ve got a bit lazy!’’ |
Ambassador Program
All new Members of the Gold Coast Turf Club are invited to join our wonderful Ambassador Paula Greene on a guided tour of the facilities and Members areas and then finish off with a complimentary drink in the Prime Ministers Bar on the ground floor.
Ambassador Meeting - 19 May 2012Start Time: 10.45am for an 11.00am start | |
![]() | Paula Greene - AmbassadorPaula has been a member of the Turf Club for over 4 years and has enjoyed many Saturday racedays in our premium Skyline Restaurant . The Ambassador program has been running for over 12 months and has been a huge success. I have found that both new & current members are quite surprised at the variety of options available to them. The tour includes all function, dining & bar areas right throughout the club. It gives you a sneak preview of what each area has to offer, allowing you to easily choose how you would like to spend your day. Dining options range from a magnificent 4 or 5 course gastronomic delight in our Skyline Restaurant (my absolute favourite) , to a more casual bistro style meal ( yummy parmigiana) in the Champagne Brasserie right through to our scumptious party pies & sandwiches in the relaxed atmosphere of the Prime Ministers Cup Bar overlooking the mounting yard and Winning Post. On any given day the exhilarating atmosphere at the Gold Coast Turf Club rivals that of any the major racecourses. So come along and enjoy the thrill of racing with us!! |
